Mandated by the UN General Assembly, is held each year on the 5th of December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work amongst their communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and United Nations agencies, government authorities, and the private sector.

On IVD 2015, we not only celebrate volunteerism in all its facets, but also pay special tribute to volunteers contributing to peace and development worldwide.
What is our messaging for IVD 2015?
IVD 2015,'Your world is changing. Are you? Volunteer!' starts a dialogue about how volunteerism is vital to the success of the new Sustainable Development Goals. On IVD 2015 we challenge everyone to think about how they can make a difference in implementing the Global Goals. In this year's IVD campaign you will see questions such as 'Are you part of the change?', 'Will you take the challenge?', 'Are you ready?' and you, as UN Volunteers and volunteers worldwide, will have the answers, as thousands of individuals show how their volunteering is making a contribution, bringing to light that volunteering is invaluable in making the world a better place.
How do we spread the message about the IVD?
We at UNV are going to promote IVD through volunteeractioncounts.org, a selfie campaign and tools provided to help you to organise local events. You definitely can do a lot to help make IVD special- by making it happen in your community, you are contributing to the global celebration around the world.
Join our selfie campaign. On our website you can find selfie-templates. Print out the one you like the most, or several, and take a picture of yourself. Then post it on your social media account and tag it with #IVD2015selfie and a caption about how and where you are contributing to a changing world. If you don't have a social media account, you can also post it on:
dia señalado para la ayuda solidaria y desinteresada
Yo tuve una experiencia de voluntariado hace cuatro años y se la recomiendo a todo el mundo. Es increíble lo que se aprende, lo que se siente, lo que se vive.
Me parece una oportunidad estupenda para apuntarse a una ONG. La donación siempre ayuda a alguien
Yo también he sido voluntaria hace ya muchos años y resulta una experiencia muy enriquecedora. ¡Os animo a ser voluntarios!
