WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT DOES THEIR NAME MEAN?

The band is formed by David Summers, electric bassist and lead vocalist, and next to him are: Francisco Javier de Molina Burgos, in charge of the drums; Rafael Muñoz Gutiérrez and Daniel Mezquita, both guitarists. They began their musical career back in 1982 in Madrid and since then they have not stopped dedicating themselves body and soul to their audience and the stage.
The band found the origin of its name in the film G Men (1935), a film noir starring James Cagney. The film inspired the group's leader and vocalist, David Summers, to give them a name that would arouse interest. They have been a great influence for later artists and gave rise to the film Sufre mamón in 1987, directed by Manuel Summers, father of the band's bassist, and one of the highest grossing films in Spain that same year.

WHEN WAS IT FORMED?

It was founded in Madrid in 1982 by David Summers, Rafa Gutiérrez, Javier Molina and Daniel Mezquita. In 1984 they received a record offer from Paco Martín, who had just set up a new label, Producciones Twins, and offered them to record their first album. In the mid 80's they became popular in Spain with their first album, to later be known internationally, mainly in Latin America.

WHAT IS THEIR MOST POPULAR SONG?

"Devuélveme a mi chica" is the best known song. David Summers was inspired by a "mamón" who had "taken" his girl, identified as Macu, to compose this smash hit. This is what the singer himself said in an interview for a television program: "We were playing in Rock-ola and I knew that she was going to go with her boyfriend. A few days before I did the song to tease her and to make them both listen to it. I don't want to think about the pressure the sucker had to endure," Summers said. The singer assures how he saw that "sucker" change color and wanting to kill them right there. Thanks to this Hombres G experience he made his way in the music industry: "It's the song that gave us everything", he said.

ARE THEY STILL ACTIVE?

It is curious because the four members of the band are still alive and active, composing new music, releasing albums and playing concerts all over the world, from Spain to Latin America. In fact, their most recent work is La esquina de Rowland, the album they released at the end of 2021.

Now David Summers and Javier Molina are 58 years old, Rafa Gutiérrez is 62 and Daniel Mezquita is 57.

La banda está formada por David Summers, bajista eléctrico y voz principal, y junto a él están: Francisco Javier de Molina Burgos, encargado de la batería; Rafael Muñoz Gutiérrez y Daniel Mezquita, ambos guitarristas. Comenzaron su carrera musical allá por 1982 en Madrid y desde entonces no han dejado de dedicarse en cuerpo y alma a su público y al escenario.
La banda encontró el origen de su nombre en la película Hombres G (1935), una película de cine negro protagonizada por James Cagney. La película inspiró al líder y vocalista del grupo, David Summers, para darles un nombre que despertara interés. Han sido una gran influencia para artistas posteriores y dieron lugar a la película Sufre mamón en 1987, dirigida por Manuel Summers, padre del bajista del grupo, y una de las más taquilleras en España ese mismo año.

¿CUÁNDO SE FORMÓ?

Se fundó en Madrid en 1982 por David Summers, Rafa Gutiérrez, Javier Molina y Daniel Mezquita. En 1984 recibieron una oferta discográfica de Paco Martín, que acababa de montar un nuevo sello, Producciones Twins, y les ofreció grabar su primer disco. A mediados de los 80 se hicieron populares en España con su primer disco, para luego ser conocidos internacionalmente, principalmente en Latinoamérica.

¿CUÁL ES SU CANCIÓN MÁS POPULAR?

"Devuélveme a mi chica" es la canción más conocida. David Summers se inspiró en un "mamón" que le había "quitado" a su chica, identificada como Macu, para componer este exitazo. Así lo contó el propio cantante en una entrevista para un programa de televisión: "Estábamos tocando en Rock-ola y yo sabía que ella iba a ir con su novio. Unos días antes hice la canción para burlarme de ella y que ambos la escucharan. No quiero ni pensar en la presión que tuvo que soportar la pringada", cuenta Summers. El cantante asegura cómo vio a ese "pringado" cambiar de color y querer matarlos allí mismo. Gracias a esta experiencia Hombres G se abrió camino en la industria musical: "Es la canción que nos dio todo", dijo.

¿SIGUEN EN ACTIVO?

Es curioso porque los cuatro miembros de la banda siguen vivos y en activo, componiendo nueva música, sacando discos y dando conciertos por todo el mundo, desde España hasta Latinoamérica. De hecho, su trabajo más reciente es La esquina de Rowland, el disco que publicaron a finales de 2021.
